The Opportunity

A leading international law firm is seeking an experienced Non-Contentious Construction Lawyer (5+ PQE) to join its Construction & Engineering practice in Manchester.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of new instructions, the team is looking to appoint a senior lawyer at Managing Associate or Legal Director level, depending on experience.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on major UK and international construction projects, advising developers, contractors, funders and public sector bodies on complex construction and infrastructure matters.

You will play a key role in transactional project delivery, client relationship development and the continued expansion of the practice, while working alongside recognised leaders in the construction and engineering sector.


The Team

The Construction and Engineering team comprises over 100 specialist lawyers, including more than 25 partners, providing comprehensive legal support across the construction and infrastructure sectors.

The team advises clients on projects across a wide range of industries including:

  • Commercial real estate developments
  • Infrastructure and transport projects
  • Energy and utilities
  • Residential and living sector developments
  • Industrial and manufacturing facilities
  • Civil engineering and process plant projects

The practice also works closely with colleagues across Real Estate, Banking, Corporate and Projects teams, delivering integrated advice on major development and infrastructure transactions.


Key Responsibilities

You will advise clients across the full lifecycle of construction projects, including:

  • Providing strategic advice on project structures and procurement strategies
  • Drafting and negotiating construction and engineering contracts
  • Advising on JCT, NEC and bespoke construction agreements
  • Supporting developers, contractors and funders on major development projects
  • Advising on risk allocation and dispute avoidance strategies
  • Working closely with partners on complex, high-value matters
  • Managing client relationships and building your own client portfolio
  • Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Qualified solicitor with 5+ years PQE
  • Strong experience advising on non-contentious construction matters
  • Experience working on construction or engineering projects in the UK
  • Strong drafting skills and experience negotiating JCT, NEC or bespoke contracts
  • Ability to manage client relationships and complex transactions

Desirable

  • Experience advising clients across real estate development, infrastructure or energy sectors
  • Interest in legal innovation and legal technology
  • Experience mentoring and supervising junior lawyers
