The Opportunity

A leading international law firm is seeking an experienced Finance Lawyer (5+ PQE) to join its growing Transition Finance practice in London.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in building a rapidly expanding practice advising banks, debt funds, sponsors and institutional investors on complex financing transactions supporting energy transition and sustainability-driven investment.

The role offers significant responsibility from the outset, including direct client exposure, transaction leadership and involvement in the strategic development of the practice. For the right individual, rapid career progression and a clear pathway to partnership are realistic objectives.

The Team

The Transition Finance practice sits within the firm’s wider Social, Sustainable and Impact Finance platform, working closely with banking, capital markets and restructuring teams.

The wider finance group advises on:

Corporate and leveraged finance
Project finance
Structured finance
Debt capital markets
Real estate finance
Social housing finance
Sustainable and green financing structures

The team works with major banks, debt funds, sponsors, institutional investors and corporates on complex cross-border transactions supporting sustainability and energy transition initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

You will play a leading role advising clients on complex transition finance transactions, including:

Structuring and documenting corporate and project finance transactions
Advising banks, sponsors and investors on acquisition finance and private credit
Negotiating LMA-based finance documentation
Advising on cross-border leveraged and structured finance transactions
Leading day-to-day management of complex financing transactions
Coordinating across multiple legal disciplines and jurisdictions
Acting as a trusted adviser to clients on transition and sustainability financing
Supporting business development, client pitches and market initiatives
Mentoring and supervising junior lawyers

Transactions often involve assets undergoing transition or modernisation, including decarbonisation and operational transformation.

Renewable and cleaner energy
Large-scale real estate retrofit projects
Industrial decarbonisation initiatives
Circular economy infrastructure
Natural capital and environmental assets
Sustainable fuels and energy transition technologies

Water security and resilience infrastructure

Candidate Requirements

Essential

Qualified solicitor with 5+ years PQE
Strong experience advising on complex debt finance transactions
Experience negotiating investment-grade LMA documentation
Background in leveraged finance, project finance or structured finance
Strong client management and transaction leadership skills

Desirable

Experience working on cross-border finance transactions
Exposure to transition finance, ESG or sustainable finance transactions
Strong interest in energy transition and climate-related investment
Experience mentoring junior lawyers
