Purpose of the Role

A highly regarded, Tier 1–ranked national Commercial team is seeking a lawyer with strong experience in IT, technology, and outsourcing. This role involves delivering complex, high-value commercial and technology projects that support client innovation and operational transformation.

You will advise on medium and large-scale transactions across a range of sectors, especially where digitalisation, outsourcing, and regulatory change intersect.

The successful candidate will work with a long-standing client base including major corporates, household brands, and leading organisations in retail, energy, utilities, industrials, and manufacturing. You will contribute to high-profile digital, sourcing and transformation projects, support strategic growth of the commercial technology offering, and mentor junior team members.

Candidates should have a minimum of 4 years’ PQE in relevant areas.


The Team

The Commercial practice operates nationally, collaborating across multiple offices on UK-wide and cross-border transactions. The team is Tier 1–ranked for IT and is trusted by an enviable mix of private and public sector clients. It regularly leads on major digital transformation projects and some of the most complex commercial technology deals in the market.

What to Expect in This Role

  • Lead and support a wide range of technology, outsourcing and commercial contracting matters, including large-scale digital transformation projects.
  • Work directly with clients to negotiate IT and BPO outsourcing arrangements, SaaS/cloud contracts, licensing and supply chain agreements.
  • Manage a varied workload spanning major transactions and mid-market deals, acting as lead adviser or as part of a wider team.
  • Build and maintain long-term client relationships, becoming a trusted strategic adviser.
  • Mentor and supervise junior lawyers and contribute to knowledge development within the team.
  • Support business development, thought leadership and client engagement initiatives.

Your Areas of Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Qualified lawyer with 4+ years’ PQE in commercial and technology law
  • Strong experience advising on:
    • IT outsourcing
    • SaaS/cloud services
    • Software licensing
    • Technology infrastructure agreements
  • Confident leading transactions and managing key client relationships
  • Able to deliver clear, commercially valuable advice
  • Skilled at managing multiple simultaneous workstreams and deadlines

Desirable

  • Experience in sectors such as retail & consumer, energy & utilities, industrials, advanced manufacturing or digital health
  • Familiarity with regulatory considerations in technology contracting (outsourcing rules, operational resilience, cloud guidance, data protection)
  • In-house experience or client secondments demonstrating strong commercial judgement
