The Role
The firm is seeking an Asset Management Tax Associate (3–4 PQE). Experience in asset management tax or partnership tax is desirable but not essential. A strong track record in tax advisory work and a genuine interest in the asset management sector are key.
You will work on market-leading matters, advising asset managers, investors, and intermediaries across the alternative investment spectrum.
Key Responsibilities
Fund Structuring & Formation
- Advising on investment fund structures across private equity, venture, credit, infrastructure, and real estate
- Working with funds and regulatory colleagues to determine optimal fund structures
- Structuring for both listed and unlisted, open- and closed-ended vehicles
Tax Advisory to Asset Managers
- Advising major global asset managers, first-time managers and boutique firms
- Carried interest and co-investment structuring
- VAT, group restructuring and global mobility tax considerations
Transactional & Secondary Markets
- Advising on acquisitions and disposals involving funds and asset managers
- Fund secondaries, GP stake transactions and asset management M&A
- Negotiating tax positions on complex cross-border transactions
Investor Advisory
- Advising large pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, family offices, fund-of-funds and institutional investors
- Addressing complex tax issues arising from fund investments and secondary trades
Disputes & Compliance
- Supporting clients in early-stage tax disputes and enquiries
- Helping clients mitigate and manage tax risk
Cross-Group Collaboration
- Working across the Tax practice (Transactional, Incentives & Remuneration) where relevant
- Opportunities to gain experience across sub-groups based on interest and business needs
- Potential for client secondments and international law firm secondments
About You
Essential Experience
- England & Wales qualified solicitor
- 3–4 years’ PQE
- Experience in asset management tax or partnership tax is helpful but NOT essential
- Strong technical tax knowledge and analytical skills
- Demonstrable interest in asset management and funds
- Excellent communication and drafting ability
- Strong matter management and proactivity
