We are seeking an Experienced Planning Lawyer to join a dynamic local authority legal team on an interim basis.

- Start: ASAP
- Rate: £50 per hour
- Location: Remote/Hybrid working available (Council HQ: Oxfordshire)
- Hours: Full-time preferred (37 hours/week), flexible working considered
- Team: Legal Services, reporting to Senior Solicitor
The Role
You will play a key role in providing high-quality legal advice and services in planning law matters, including:
- Drafting legal agreements and policy advice
- Supporting planning-related litigation and inquiries
- Advising on highways, environment, and development matters
- Training officers and attending committee meetings
- Managing your own caseload with minimal supervision
Requirements
- Current Practising Certificate (Solicitor, CILEX Lawyer, or Barrister – England & Wales)
- At least 1 year PQE, ideally more
- Strong knowledge of Planning Law (and related fields such as Environment, Highways, Local Government Law)
- Local authority experience strongly preferred
- Ability to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities, and provide concise, accurate legal advice
Desirable
- Familiarity with local government governance processes
- Confident advocacy and committee support experience
