The Opportunity
A leading UK law firm is continuing to invest in the growth of its Commercial Disputes practice and is seeking an experienced Legal Director to join its Manchester team. The Team
You will be part of a highly regarded Commercial Disputes group with a strong presence across the UK and internationally. The team is recognised for its strategic, commercial, and innovative approach to resolving business disputes and investigations.

The practice combines deep legal expertise with a practical understanding of clients’ businesses, enabling delivery of effective and tailored dispute resolution strategies. Work often involves collaboration with colleagues across both contentious and non-contentious disciplines.

Core areas include:

  • Complex commercial and corporate disputes
  • Litigation and formal proceedings
  • Alternative dispute resolution (ADR), including mediation, negotiation, and adjudication
  • Strategic advisory work on high-risk and business-critical issues

The Role
This is a senior role offering a broad and engaging mix of responsibilities. You will:

  • Lead and manage complex commercial and corporate disputes
  • Oversee case strategy, delivery, and client relationships
  • Supervise and mentor associate teams
  • Work closely with partners on high-value and strategically important matters
  • Contribute to business development, including strengthening existing client relationships and developing new opportunities
  • Collaborate across practice areas and sector groups
  • Stay ahead of legal and regulatory developments, applying insight to client advice
  • Explore and adopt innovative approaches, including the use of legal technology and AI tools

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified lawyer with 8+ years’ PQE in commercial disputes within private practice
  • Strong experience handling a wide range of complex disputes
  • Excellent technical ability combined with commercial awareness
  • Proven leadership and team management skills
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and confident in client-facing situations
  • Strong relationship-building skills with a focus on delivering high-quality client service
  • Curious mindset with a genuine interest in understanding client businesses and delivering impactful advice
