The Opportunity

A leading international law firm is seeking a Contentious Financial Regulation Lawyer (4–6 PQE) to join its market-leading Financial Services Regulatory practice in London.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile regulatory investigations and systemic issues affecting the UK financial services sector. The role offers exposure to complex matters involving regulatory scrutiny, enforcement risk management and large-scale remediation programmes.

You will work alongside experienced regulatory specialists including former regulators and ombudsmen, advising major financial institutions on complex regulatory challenges involving the FCA, PRA and Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).


The Team

The Financial Regulation team sits within a broader Regulation, Insurance and Funds practice, advising clients across banking, insurance, asset management and investment sectors.

The team works on a wide range of contentious and advisory regulatory matters, including:

  • Systemic regulatory investigations
  • Supervisory and enforcement engagement with regulators
  • Skilled Person reviews and regulatory remediation programmes
  • Mass complaint and redress programmes
  • Regulatory risk management and compliance strategies

Clients include major banks, insurers, investment managers, pension providers and financial platforms operating in the UK and internationally.


Key Responsibilities

You will advise clients on a wide range of financial services regulatory matters, including:

Regulatory Investigations & Contentious Matters

  • Advising on large-scale systemic regulatory issues
  • Supporting firms in FCA and PRA supervisory or enforcement processes
  • Assisting with Section 166 Skilled Person reviews
  • Conducting breach assessments and regulatory incident response

Regulator & Ombudsman Engagement

  • Preparing clients for regulatory meetings and interviews
  • Drafting regulator-facing communications
  • Advising on strategies to manage FOS complaint cohorts and regulatory scrutiny

Redress & Disputes

  • Supporting mass redress programmes and compensation schemes
  • Advising on collective actions and financial services disputes
  • Supporting matters involving market abuse, insider dealing or financial crime risks

You will also work closely with colleagues across litigation, insurance and financial services teams on complex cross-disciplinary matters.


Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Qualified solicitor with 4–6 years PQE
  • Experience advising on financial services regulation or regulatory disputes
  • Experience dealing with FCA, PRA or FOS matters
  • Strong drafting, analytical and client communication skills
  • Ability to manage complex matters and multiple stakeholders

Desirable

  • Experience in regulatory investigations or enforcement actions
  • Exposure to redress schemes or systemic regulatory issues
  • Experience advising on financial services litigation or dispute resolution
  • Interest in emerging regulatory issues such as AI governance and financial technology regulation
