The Opportunity

A leading international law firm is seeking an experienced Contentious Construction Lawyer (7+ PQE) to join its Construction & Engineering practice in Leeds.

Due to continued growth and an expanding pipeline of high-value mandates, the team is looking to appoint a senior lawyer to advise on complex construction disputes and project issues across a range of sectors including infrastructure, energy, commercial development and public sector projects.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile construction disputes, develop client relationships and contribute to the continued growth of a Tier 1 ranked construction practice.

Senior lawyers joining at Legal Director level will be encouraged to take leadership roles in client relationships, business development and team supervision.


The Team

The Construction & Engineering team comprises more than 100 specialist lawyers, including over 25 partners, providing comprehensive legal support across all aspects of the construction industry.

The Leeds team includes multiple partners and a large group of specialist construction lawyers, advising clients across both contentious and non-contentious construction matters.

The team works across a wide range of sectors including:

  • Commercial real estate developments
  • Infrastructure and utilities
  • Energy and industrial projects
  • Civil engineering and process plant developments
  • Public sector and PPP projects

Clients include developers, lenders, landlords, tenants, contractors and public sector bodies, and the team works closely with colleagues across Real Estate, Banking and Projects teams.


Key Responsibilities

You will advise clients on a wide range of contentious construction matters, including:

  • Acting on construction disputes and project-related claims
  • Advising on issues arising under JCT, NEC and bespoke construction contracts
  • Representing clients including developers, lenders, contractors and public sector bodies
  • Advising on risk management and dispute avoidance strategies
  • Leading complex matters and coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Managing client relationships and supporting business development initiatives
  • Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers
  • Contributing to the continued growth and development of the construction practice

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Qualified solicitor with 7+ years PQE
  • Strong experience in contentious construction law
  • Experience advising on disputes arising from JCT, NEC or bespoke construction contracts
  • Strong client management and transaction leadership skills
  • Ability to supervise and mentor junior lawyers

Desirable

  • Experience advising on major infrastructure or development projects
  • Exposure to complex construction disputes or adjudication
  • Interest in business development and client relationship management
