The Opportunity

A leading international law firm is seeking a Real Estate Finance Lawyer (4+ PQE) to join its growing Finance and Restructuring practice in Scotland.

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex real estate finance and distressed property transactions, advising lenders, investors and insolvency practitioners across a broad range of asset classes.

Working closely with the firm’s Banking & Finance and Restructuring teams, you will support high-value domestic and cross-border transactions while playing an important role in the continued growth of the real estate finance practice.

The Team

The real estate finance team operates as part of a national finance group with strong expertise across banking, restructuring and structured finance.

The practice advises:

  • Major UK and international banks and financial institutions
  • Debt funds and insurers
  • Property investors and developers
  • Blue-chip property companies
  • Family offices and institutional investors

The team works across all real estate asset classes on both lender-side and borrower-side transactions, including domestic and cross-border deals.


Key Responsibilities

You will work on a wide range of real estate finance and distressed property matters, including:

  • Advising lenders on the property aspects of real estate finance transactions
  • Reviewing title documents and preparing reports on title
  • Drafting and negotiating security documentation and undertakings
  • Advising on property security structures within financing transactions
  • Supporting lenders and insolvency practitioners on distressed property sales
  • Leading and managing complex real estate finance transactions
  • Providing practical and commercially focused legal advice
  • Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers
  • Supporting business development initiatives and client relationship management

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Qualified solicitor with 4+ years PQE
  • Strong experience in real estate or real estate finance transactions
  • Experience advising on property security and finance documentation
  • Strong drafting, organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage complex transactions and client relationships

Desirable

  • Experience in distressed real estate transactions
  • Dual qualification in Scots and English law (beneficial but not essential)
  • Interest in real estate finance markets and industry developments
  • Experience mentoring junior lawyers
